Pat Foster-Turley, Ph.D., is a wildlife conservationist who has dedicated her life to studying
wildlife and working with people who live in wild areas of the world. For nearly two decades Pat
worked at Marine World Africa USA in California—first as Zoo Otter Keeper, and expanding to
become Education/Research Director.

Pat raised orphaned North American river otters for the State of California and handled them
for public educational demonstrations throughout their lives. She eventually moved off into the
field to study otters in Southeast Asia for her Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Florida.

Pat chaired the World Conservation Union’s Otter Specialist Group for nearly a decade, and
organized conservation meetings and research projects around the world, before joining the
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as a contracting biodiversity
specialist living in Africa.

Pat now lives on beautiful Amelia Island, where she writes a weekly nature column for the Fernandina Beach News-Leader and continually explores the wildlife around her. She volunteers her time for the
preservation of wildlife habitats on the island and helps to keep the public informed of vital issues.

When not engaged in consulting projects, Pat entertains people with her guided tours and illustrated talks
on wildlife from Amelia Island to Zimbabwe. Her amazing tales of worldwide animal encounters, her
excellent photography and delightful sense of humor are sure to keep you enthralled no matter which
